My name is Lisl and I have been making sea glass jewlery for twenty six years. Out Of the Blue Sea Glass Jewelry was started in Rincon, Puerto Rico and is the world's oldest full time sea glass jewelry business. This adventure began in 1987 when my grandmother sent me on what was meant to be a two week trip to visit family in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico. During this trip I explored much of the island especially the beaches of the west coast where I found an abundance of sea glass and seashells. I instantly surrendered to the tropical ether and forgot about my return ticket back to the states. Rincon, a surf town on the west coast of the island, became my home for the next fifteen years. With the beach treasures I collected I started making jewelry and other tropical crafts. I sold my creations by way of the coconut telegraph, from a table on the beach and from a local gallery space. I met my husband, a surfer from Florida, in Puerto Rico and we now live stateside. We call two locations home, one is the beautiful town of Southern Shores on the Outer Banks of North Carolina and the other is Sarasota County on the beautiful gulf coast of Florida. We are beachcombers and wander beaches all over the world in search of sea glass and other sea changed treasures. Most of our jewelry is made with sea glass that we collected ourselves. This is not just a sea glass jewelry business for us, it is a lifestyle and a passion. Sea glass inspires us to follow our hearts and to have faith in our creativity and innovation. Our jewelry is designed for free spirits that love time worn things and long for the craftsmanship of bygone eras. Sea glass looks to have emerged from antiquity. It looks to be a product of nature yet comes from man made glass. I often find myself wondering what kind of jewelry ancient people that lived by the sea would have made with sea glass. This inquiry serves as inspiration and I strive to make sea glass jewelry that not only has the potential to become an heirloom but looks to be timeless. Each ear wire and pendant bale is lovingly shaped and finished by hand in our studio. Each bracelet and necklace is hand pieced together. Our jewelry is made from scratch. Using age-old techniques and simple hand tools I shape and form precious metal wire into jewelry. It is an honor and an adventure to practice these ancient traditions. What Is Sea Glass Or Beach Glass?
Sea glass or beach glass comes from our lost broken glass that found its way to the sea where it is transformed into frosted gem like treasures by the natural tumbling action of the tides. Both terms sea glass or beach glass can refer to glass that has emerged from the sea and beach glass refers to glass that has emerged from a body of fresh water such as one of the Great Lakes. In Puerto Rico sea glass is sometimes called crystal de mar or vidrio de mar. Sea glass is often poetically referred to as "Mermaids Tears" and washes up on beaches all over the world. In writing you will sometimes see seaglass, or beachglass. I love the oneness of "seaglass" after all those years in the ocean glass becomes something beyond the man made. It is as if the glass has blended with the sea and the two are now inseparable. The way you can hold a seashell up to your ear and hear the ocean I find that you can feel the power of the sea when you hold a piece of sea glass in your hand.

All of our sea glass was collected on a beach and was worn smooth only by the sea. We never cut our sea glass to fit a setting, chemically etch it or tumble it. Other than a drill hole the sea glass in our jewelry comes to you as found on the beach. Out Of The Blue Seaglass Jewelry has never been and will never be involved with creating or selling artificial sea glass. We consider artificial sea glass to be craft glass that has no relation to sea glass whatsoever. We believe that fake, faux, imitation, artificial "sea glass" should never have the term sea glass in the title, it should be called craft glass. If glass was not worn smooth only by the natural forces of the sea then it is not sea glass, seaglass, beach glass or beach glass it is craft glass. Most of the sea glass in our jewelry was collected on the beaches of Puerto Rico and England.
