Soulful Sea Siren
Cobalt blue sea glass sways beneath modern day and antique glass beads. We found the sea glass while wandering the beaches of Rincon, Puerto Rico and it was worn smooth only by the warm tropical surf of the Caribbean. The pyramid shaped beads are made out of recycled glass. They are modern day and were made in Krobo Odumase, Ghana. The interlocking zig-zag beads and the tubular shaped beads were made in Bohemia in the early 1900s for the African trades. For thousands of years beads and natural found objects such as seashells have been used for currency all over the world. Although these beads are fairly young as trade beads go they show signs of wear, just like our modern day currency, from years of being handled. Just like our paper money and coins there is no telling how many hands they have passed through. Old trade beads are highly collectible just like sea glass! I acquire my old trade beads from some of the worlds leading bead researchers. I made these earrings with Argentium silver wire and formed and forged the ear wires by hand. Argentium silver is superior to and purer than traditional sterling silver. Handmade ear wires give sea glass earrings a high end artisan look and feel. The sea glass is 3/4" L, the beads range in size from 3mm-7mm and the earrings are 2&1/4" L from the bottom of the ear wires. Authentic sea glass.
