Rare red sea glass beauties ( just over 1/2" L x 3/8" W ) from the Caribbean and antique glass beads ( 12mm L x 7mm W ) suspend from beautifully handmade Argentium silver ear wires. We found this sea glass while wandering the beaches of Rincon, Puerto Rico and it was worn smooth only by the warm tropical waters of the Caribbean. The beads are blue with lighter blue stripes and where sliced on the diagonal to reveal a red, white and blue starburst pattern on the inside. The beads were made in Venice in the early 1900s for the African trade. For thousands of years beads and natural found objects such as seashells have been used for currency all over the world. Although these beads are fairly young as trade beads go they show signs of wear, just like our modern day currency, from years of being handled. Just like our paper money and coins there is no telling how many hands they have passed through. Old trade beads are highly collectible just like sea glass! I acquire my old trade beads from some of the worlds leading bead researchers. I hand-formed and forged the ear wires by hand with sterling silver wire. These beautifully handmade ear wires have an ancient and classical beauty. The earrings are 1&5/8" L from the bottom of the ear wires. Authentic sea glass.

You will receive the earrings pictured here.

About The Sea Glass

Amber sea glass is common and descends from a wide range of fascinating glass items with some dating back to the late 1800s. Old Clorox and Lysol bottles along with tobacco snuff and jars, medicinal bottles/jars, beer bottles and even brown mason jars have all contributed to the creation of amber sea glass. The sea glass in these earrings was found on the beaches of Rincon, Puerto Rico and may come from sources that are unique to the island. These other sources include Puerto Rican beers like Tigre, India and Medalla and Puerto Rican malted sodas such as Malta India and Goya. Beck's beer and Heineken bottles could be a possible sources as these beers were once bottled only in amber glass on the island.
