Soulful, feminine and earthy earrings with amber sea glass from the Caribbean, old Venetian glass beads and modern day recycled glass beads. We found the sea glass while wandering the beaches of Rincon, Puerto Rico and it was worn smooth only by tropical surf. The yellow beads are 8mm x 11mm and have a beautiful brown, red, green and white pattern. These beads were made in Venice for the African trade and date to the late 1800s to the early 1900s. For thousands of years beads and natural found objects such as seashells have been used for currency all over the world. Although these beads are fairly young as trade beads go they show signs of wear, just like our modern day currency, from years of being handled. Just like our paper money and coins there is no telling how many hands they have passed through. Old trade beads are highly collectible just like sea glass! I acquire my old trade beads from some of the worlds leading bead researchers. The royal blue pyramid beads were made in Ghana and are 7mm in size. They are modern day sandcast beads and were made with pulverized recycled glass. The beads are fired in a kiln which is made out of termite mound clay that is fueled with crushed palm kernels. These beads have a really cool grainy texture. Sea glass and recycled glass beads have a real affinity for each other and look beautiful together. I made these earrings with Argentium silver which is purer than traditional sterling silver. It is brighter and whiter than platinum, white gold and sterling silver and it is hypoallergenic. These earrings hang from my handmade ear wires which give sea glass earrings a high end artisan look and feel. The sea glass is approximately 3/4" L. The earrings are approximately 2&1/4" L from the bottom of the ear wires. All Argentium silver. Authentic sea glass.
