Soulful earrings with a free spirit! Cornflower blue sea glass from the Caribbean ( 5/8" L x 3/8" W ) and blue and white striped antique glass beads ( 15mm L x 7mm W ) suspend from beautifully handmade sterling silver ear wires. This sea glass is as sublime and beautiful as the Caribbean twilight sky. We found it while wandering the beaches of Rincon, Puerto Rico and it was worn smooth only by the warm tropical surf of the Caribbean. Cornflower blue sea glass is coveted by sea glass collectors and is even rarer than cobalt blue sea glass! Possible sources are old Phillips bottles that pre-dated the iconic cobalt blue Phillips bottles. The beads were made in Venice in the early 1900s for the African trade. For thousands of years beads and natural found objects such as seashells have been used for currency all over the world. Although these beads are fairly young as trade beads go they show signs of wear, just like our modern day currency, from years of being handled. Just like our paper money and coins there is no telling how many hands they have passed through. Old trade beads are highly collectible just like sea glass! I acquire my old trade beads from some of the worlds leading bead researchers. I hand-formed and forged the ear wires by hand with sterling silver wire. These beautifully handmade ear wires have an ancient and classical beauty. The earrings are 1&1/2" L from the bottom of the ear wires. Authentic sea glass.
