Cobalt blue sea glass washed smooth by the tropical waves of the Caribbean suspends from hand-fabricated elements. We found these enchanting sea glass treasures on the beaches of Rincon, Puerto Rico. I loved making these earrings! The process starts with forming spheres out of tiny pieces of Argentium silver with a torch. Argentium silver is a higher quality sterling silver that is purer than traditional sterling silver. Next I shaped and smoothed squares of Argentium silver and fused the spheres to them. Spheres tend to roll around under the torch. Arriving at the moment of stillness when the spheres fuse where they were delicately placed and intended to be is truly blissful. As the spheres sink into the sheet metal a celestial beauty emerges. This step is followed by a euphoria that comes from knowing that what was once many pieces of silver are now one piece of silver. Finally, connecting components are soldered on. To bring out the soulful beauty of the silver I oxidized and brushed it to create a dark satiny patina. The silver spheres shimmer softly like far away mysterious stars in the night sky. These earrings hang from Argentium silver ear wires that I shaped and forged by hand. Argentium Silver is brighter and whiter than platinum, white gold and sterling silver and it is also hypoallergenic. The sea glass is approximately 5/8" L. The silver elements are 14mm W x 18mm L. The earrings are approximately 1&3/8" L from the bottom of the ear wires. Authentic Sea Glass.
