Island style earrings with a dreamy watery beauty! Aquamarine sea glass ( 5/8" L x just under 1/2" W ) from the Caribbean and blue and white striped antique glass beads ( 17mm L x 8mm W ) suspend from beautifully handmade sterling silver ear wires. We found this sea glass while wandering the beaches of Rincon, Puerto Rico and it is as beautiful as the tropical waters from which it emerged. Possible sources are old mineral water bottles. The beads were made in Venice in the early 1900s for the African trade. For thousands of years beads and natural found objects such as seashells have been used for currency all over the world. Although these beads are fairly young as trade beads go they show signs of wear, just like our modern day currency, from years of being handled. Just like our paper money and coins there is no telling how many hands they have passed through. Old trade beads are highly collectible just like sea glass! I acquire my old trade beads from some of the worlds leading bead researchers. I hand-formed and forged the ear wires by hand with sterling silver wire. These beautifully handmade ear wires have an ancient and classical beauty. The earrings are just over 1&1/2" L from the bottom of the ear wires. All of our sea glass is authentic. The sea glass in these earrings was washed smooth only by Caribbean surf.
