Cobalt blue sea glass from the Caribbean and three interlocking glass beads suspend from hand-formed ear wires. We found these rare sea glass beauties while wandering the beaches of Rincon, Puerto Rico and they were worn smooth only by warm tropical Caribbean surf. The interlocking beads are opaque blue and were made in the Czech Republic for the African trade in the early 1900s. For thousands of years beads and natural found objects such as seashells have been used for currency all over the world. Although these beads are fairly young as trade beads go they show signs of wear, just like our modern day currency, from years of being handled. Just like our paper money and coins there is no telling how many hands they have passed through. Old trade beads are highly collectible just like sea glass! I acquire my old trade beads from some of the worlds leading bead researchers. I made these earrings with Argentium silver which is purer than traditional sterling silver. It is brighter and whiter than platinum, white gold and sterling silver. This beautiful silver is also hypoallergenic. Handmade ear wires give sea glass earrings a high end artisan look and feel. The sea glass is just under 1/2" L. The beads are 5mm x 2mm. The earrings are approximately 1" L from the bottom of the ear wires. All Argentium silver. Authentic sea glass.
