Things To Keep In Mind
Handle With Care - Seaglass could break if dropped on a hard surface etc. Sleeping with your jewelry on could damage it. Apply lotions and perfumes before putting on your jewelry.
Wash & Wear
Wash & Wear Sea Glass Jewelry - My jewelry is designed to be wash and wear. That is why I use silver or copper wire and no longer work with stringing materials.
Maintenance
Maintain Your Sea Glass Jewelry - Wash occasionally with liquid dish soap and warm water. I recommend Dawn, many silversmiths use it to burnish silver! Rinse well and blot dry with a cotton washcloth. Let it dry air dry some then store it in an airtight plastic bag. This keeps the seaglass clean and slows tarnishing. It will not hurt the seaglass, wire or the beads.
Cleaning Your Sea Glass Jewelry
Tarnish Removal - To remove tarnish I recommend a foaming silver cleaner such as *Wrights Silver Cream. It comes in an eight ounce tub with a sponge and is available at the supermarket. Since it is a foaming cleanser it gets into the nooks and crannies of the silver work, cleans tarnish stains and dirt from the seaglass and rinses off well. Simply follow the instructions. Rinse well and gently blot dry with a soft cloth and allow to air dry on a towel.
Silver dips are not recommended as they do not clean the seaglass. Polish cloths are frustrating and tedious to use on small surfaces and if you hit the seaglass with it you might smudge it with tarnish.
More On Tarnish
Don't Worry! - If your jewelry becomes badly tarnished stains may appear on the seaglass. With proper care this can easily be prevented and resolved.
Tarnish Stains On The Sea Glass - If your jewelry becomes very tarnished and tarnish has migrated to the sea glass it can be cleaned with baby oil. Baby oil completely removes tarnish stains and most dirt buildip from the seaglass and will not affect the wire or beads. You can pour it directly on the seaglass rub with your fingers or a cotton ball then wash with dish soap and voila no tarnish on your seaglass! After that go ahead and use the Wrights Silver Creme.
