Blog Summer 2011 ~ Halcyon Beach Days, Rainbows & Diamond Raindrops

Halcyon Beach Days, Rainbows & Diamond Raindrops
August 28, 2011
This summer I have fallen behind on what were suppose to be monthly journal posts. The summer in Florida is steamy hot and is my favorite time here. I have been under the tropical humid ether! So I decided to post in the spirit of "What I Did This summer" when I wasn't making jewelry. The beach is probably a good place to start. We go to our local beaches year round but this is the time of year when the Gulf Of Mexico is warm and perfect for swimming. We have been taking advantage of the nirvanic beach conditions and have enjoyed many salty soaks in the gulf.
Summer is the rainy season here and when the sky is clear it is intensely blue. As the clouds gather for and during summer storms the lighting is luminous and silvery. Watching clouds move around and storms come in is one of our favortie pastimes:)
This year we had a true rainy season. In the last couple of years we have not had that classic rainy season which is typical to the summer tropics. This year the rainy season was rainy! I had a day on Boca Grande that was pure magic. I stretched out on the gulf and floated opening my heart to the life giving sun. As I put my feet back on the ocean floor raindrops were falling from a sunny sky and as they hit the surface of the sea their splashes looked like light filled diamonds jumping out of the water. As someone who works with glass that has been transformed by the sea into something gem like I found this to be a very affirming event.
And of course the summer rains bring summer rainbows - Hurray!
The rainy season is a great time to plant so we put in a bromeliad bed late Spring and have been expanding it throughout the summer. As the bromeliads send out "pups" ( yes that is what bromeliad babies are called ) we have been dividing them and the bromeliad area is expanding at a nice pace.
My husband decided that he wanted to paint the house lime green and I said go for it! Our dog steals the show in the picture below which was taken at night. The room to the right is my jewelry studio.
On a mission to allow for the paradox and to live from the heart the halcyon summer days have energized and inspired me. Earlier today I found a seashell with a beautiful sea worn heart shaped hole.
