Sea Glass From Canada
Last summer we traveled to Prince Edward Island, Canada to participate in the first annual Mermaid Tears Sea Glass Festival. We attended this event as a vendor and Out Of the Blue Seaglass Jewelry was also one of the sponsors for the Shard Contest which was judged by Richard and Nancy LaMotte.
My mother, who is from Puerto Rico, joined us for this adventure and as we were exploring PEI she said "all island people are the same." In terms of climate, culture, vegetation and population density etc. Puerto Rico and PEI could not be anymore different...but yet there is an indescribable familiarity that we as islanders experienced there. We all fell in love with PEI and missed it terribly when we got home.
I was also amazed by the similarity of PEI's sea glass to Puerto Rico's. The sea glass we collected there was a little thicker than most of what we have collected in Puerto Rico but was very much the same in terms of quality. Most of our Canadian sea glass was collected during this trip to Prince Edward Island and some was collected by me in Newfoundland several years earlier.
According to the organizers the festival was a big success and they are already planning the 2010 Mermaids Tears Sea Glass Festival for next July. We had such a wonderful time there and would love to participate again next year!
