We collected these large pieces of sun induced lavender sea glass from the beaches of Puerto Rico. Lavender sea glass comes from glass that was made with manganese and was once clear. Over time the manganese interacts with sunlight and reacts in a way that causes the glass to purple. If allowed to soak up sunlight this sea glass will gradually intensify in color. These treasures were not only worn smooth by some of the Caribeans most powerful surf but where transformed by the Caribbean sun into softly colored violoet sea gems.

About The Sea Glass

We collected the lavender sea glass in these earrings from a beach in Puerto Rico. Lavender sea glass comes from what was once clear colorless glass that was made with manganese. Over time clear glass that contains manganese purples if it has been exposed to sunlight. This change is permanent and depending on how much manganese is in the glass it will intensify and become a deeper lavender if kept in a sunny spot. Lavender sea glass continues to be changed by nature after it has been collected from the beach.

The ear wires in these earrings were handmade and hand forged here in our studio. All sterling silver.
