About The Sea Glass
We collected the cobalt blue sea glass in this pendant from a beach in Puerto Rico. This treasures was worn smooth by some of the Caribbeans most powerful surf. Cobalt blue is classified as a rare sea glass color amongst collectors. When I first started collecting sea glass in Puerto Rico cobalt blue was a locally common sea glass color and has become less common on the island. Cobalt blue sea glass may date back as far as the late 1800's. Possible sources of Puerto Rican cobalt blue sea glass are various medicine and poison bottles along with Phillips Milk Of Magnesia bottles and Vicks and Noxzema jars. Other sources may include Victorian era window panes and some old glass odds & ends such as swizel sticks and eye baths.
Wire Wrapping
The sea glass is wrapped with thick gauge sterling silver wire in a durable wire setting and is finished with a sea spiral detail.
Spirals
The spiral is one of the oldest designs created by mankind and has been used since megalithic times across cultures and continents in various types of artwork to symbolize the eternal. Spirals appear in nature in seashells, the oceans tides, winds, plants and galaxies. This beautiful form is truly ageless.
